The old 2D Traditional animation process included painting on cells to overlay and move underneath a large camera. The backgrounds were often painted in watercolour and were stationary for the duration of filming. It’s interesting to see how the old process isn’t so different from the 2D animation process now, and how some studios and television programmes such as The Simpsons follow a similar path.
